At some point every generation passes the baton to the young. In all walks of life, and more often than not this happens in cricket. The under 35s/40s took on the old masters of the over 35s/40s of the JAVs. Winning the toss the youngsters captain Charlie Yolland chose to bat. The oldies were captained by a maturing like a fine wine, Christopher 'straight outta Dorset' Morton who had a strategy to bowl oldies in short spells. Very sensible. Unfortunately plan A was not working as TMac opening the innings made 102 to follow his 117 the previous week. Oh! to be in such form!

Soon the young guns increased their total after 20 overs to 134 for two. Joe Baker made a quickfire 40 before being caught and bowled by the oldest member of the ancients. Steveo Leybourne rolling back the years with a swift one handed catch. His first since 1975. Eventually the young ones stretched their lead finishing on 280 for six.

A mature approach was needed and with excess of 90 years experience Martyn Way and Captain Morton opened the batting putting on 34 runs in double quick time. Gav Lyons 41 and Chairmundo Sonnex 54 took the fight to the youngsters. was not to be with the wickets shared around by the minors as the elderly were cast aside with 184 runs for eight wickets down.

A great game played in excellent spirit with a few celebratory beers to follow. Let's talk it up again for next year.
