JAVs win away for the first time this season

This is a match report from 2015. Yesterday we were due to play the Lee at their wonderful ground. Another game in lockdown and as Match of the Day becomes Match of their Day I thought I would take a trip down memory lane. Javs still unbeaten this season.

On a glorious spring sunny day at perhaps the most beautiful cricket ground I have ever played, the JAVs limped to a glorious victory. Somehow managing to lose the toss Capt Morton had us fielding first.Opening the bowling with the late Chaiman emeritus Tim Sonnex and Mr Keith Murphy OBE, we soon had the openers desperate to threaten the scoreboard. The scond string bowlers now entered the attack wth the Yolland father and son tag team lusting for some early blood.

Wickets were now falling. Sonnex, the Yollands, the Leybourne, Toby Odell, Mr Murphy CBE and Liam all shared the spoils. The Lee finally amassed a total of 158 after 40 overs.

The openers strode manfully to the task in hand and with an opening stand of 67 ensured a solid platform for a midde order collapse. Capt Morton 25 the Chair 36. Charlie Yolland made a smooth but ultimately jug avoiding 49 before a few ducks were inevitably lined up in a row. Simon and Toby have now joined the ducks league. Up stepped the closers of Leybourne and Sir Keith Murphy KBE who hit a stunning six to clear the boundary and win us the match.
